NFL Week 1 – Redskins, Ravens, 49ers vs. Cowboys

Hometown Teams Fail to Impress

As week 1 came to a close, the state of Maryland and City of Washington DC was disappointed to see the Redskins and Ravens lose. The Redskins lost on the road to the Houston Texans as they failed to produce successful plays to the end zone. Robert Griffin III failed to get the ball down the field and Washington’s receiving core looked slow and unmotivated to rack up stats. Houston’s star Defensive End J.J. Watt sacked the quarterback numerous times along with a blocked Extra point. Texans win 17-6. This was ultimately depressing seeing that in my eyes, the Redskins are the best team in the NFC East and have potential to beat any team. Moving over to Baltimore, the Ravens were in a back-and-forth battle with division rival Cincinnati Bengals. The Ravens scored on a deep pass to newly-acquired wide receiver Steve Smith in the fourth quarter. This gave the Ravens a 16-15 lead over the Bengals. But the Cincinnati Quarterback wouldn’t let up as he heaved a pass down field to superstar AJ Green for a touchdown, giving the Bengals a clutch 23-16 victory. This game couldn’t make me happier, in that the Ravens are my least favorite team and the fan base sometimes seems too cocky.

49ers Embarrass Cowboys Defense

In the matchup between the 49ers and cowboys, San Francisco Quarterback Colin Kaepernick delivered several passes to the end zone including two of them to premier Tight End Vernon Davis. The rookie Running back out of Ohio State, Carlos Hyde, also contributed with a short touchdown run up the middle. Then to the other side of the ball, the 49ers completely shut down Dallas Quarterback Tony Romo with 3 interceptions. One by safety Eric Reid, another in the end zone by linebacker Patrick Willis, and the third by cornerback Perrish Cox. The Cowboys looked absolutely horrible, and the loss of defensive end DeMarcus Ware from trade and linebacker Sean Lee from injury, is obviously detrimental based on Sundays Performance. With this 28-17 win over the Cowboys, the 49ers look fresh and ready to roll, which is exactly what needed to happen. Tony Romo and the Cowboys are beyond overrated and the team just looks outright awful.
