Not So Once-Upon-a-Prom

Many girls dream of going to their senior prom as a little girl. They dream of getting the perfect date, hair, makeup, jewelry, shoes, and, most importantly, the dress. Prom typically takes place in May, a few weeks before graduation. However, festivities such as finding the perfect dress takes place a few months in advance. A facebook group gets created early on to ensure that no girl arrives with the same or similar dress. While this idea does have benefits, is it really necessary?

If one is willing to spend money on a dress that they like and they feel comfortable in, they should most definitely purchase it. They should not feel pressure to choose another one that they do not adore as much for the fear of getting called out because someone already has it or something similar. Prom is a once in a lifetime experience. Everyone should feel happy and beautiful in what they wear. It does not matter if dresses are similar. It does not matter if you are in the same friend group or not; if you like it, then get it. After all, you only have one chance at a senior prom.
