Girls’ Basketball Come Up Short against Blair

by Jackson Hongtong ’21 and Aaron Jaffe ’21

After losing their last two games in the regular season, the girls’ varsity basketball team went into the first round of the playoffs and defeated Northwood 55-27 in a dominating effort at home on February 23. The Warriors came out with the energy needed in an elimination game. The offense was clicking as shots continued to fall in the first half. The defense did a great job of turning defense into transition offense by playing tough and forcing turnovers. In the second half, it was more of the same as the Warriors cruised to victory.

However, the team lost in the next round to Blair 59-47 on February 27. The team was outmatched by a tough Blair team on the road. Sherwood lost to Blair previously in the regular season 61-34. Unfortunately for seniors Amanda Orsborne, Emily St. Laurent, Heather Chidel, Michelle Levy, and Madison Bliss, the loss concludes their careers playing at Sherwood.

The Warriors came into the season with modest expectations after the graduation of star player Amanda Allen. The Warriors completed the season on a 7-14 record, a decline from last year’s record of 11-11. They did make improvements on their playoff run, considering they lost in the first round last year. The team now will have to find some new talent as they head into the offseason and gear up for the next season.
